012 [Action Closed Forward dated to 12-25]
[A couple of weeks ago, Rose sent out invitations inviting people to Christmas at the flat she shares with the Doctors. Since then, she's been running around like a headless chicken for many reasons, the party only being one.

The flat is a large one on the top floor with high ceilings and good views. It's a bit sparsely furnished with the main feature being a hammock bed hanging in one corner in front of a window. There's a television, some sort of funky looking sofa, one of those large over sized chairs that two skinny people can sit in and end tables scattered near the seating. There's also a Christmas tree that probably looks like Christmas threw up pink and TARDIS blue on it.

The Doctor (with the hair) is in the kitchen cooking while Rose runs back and forth between the kitchen and the living area to talk with people. Come in, have a drink and mingle. The actual dinner is going to be on the rooftop.]

[ooc: I thought I'd put this up early so people could play with it. There will be a 'during dinner' header below this. Feel free to thread jack, take some liberties with what's going on and just have fun. There's no time limit on this and backtagging is encouraged and loved. If Rose sent you an invitation or if it's been discussed via plurk, ic or any other means that your character was attending, have at it.]

[Janine got there early, landing on the roof with a distinct running thump. She was carrying a sailfish almost as long as her six-foot beak, radiating faint smugness. It had leaped and she'd snatched it right out of the air, which had been kind of tricky. She'd managed to kill it and drain most of the blood, then rinse in seawater, but it still dripped onto the roof. She dripped seawater with it.]

[Her shoulders are just too big to let her through a door of standard width, so she'll have to stay on the roof.]

[Rose hears the thump on the roof (top floor has it's advantages?) and heads up with a good idea of who and what it was anyway. When she sees Janine she smiles brightly. Okay, the fish is a little odd...or maybe not. In any case, Rose is happy to see her.]

Guess you brought your own dinner. M'glad you could come.
[identity profile] azhdarchidae.livejournal.com on December 26th, 2011 02:55 am (UTC)
I threatened to, and no one stopped me. Too late now!

...Hacking it apart might get messy, though. [Will be messy.]
[identity profile] iam-thebadwolf.livejournal.com on December 26th, 2011 04:37 am (UTC)
S'probably the easiest way. [She winces a bit at that.]

What needs to be done to it?
[identity profile] azhdarchidae.livejournal.com on December 26th, 2011 04:49 am (UTC)
It's just got to be cut into some pieces. [The fish is too large for her to swallow whole - yes, her beak is a little longer, but also more narrow, and it would be awkward in her throat.] I can do that myself. Might end up leaving guts on your roof, though.

[Got someone with a cleaver and a spare oven?]
[identity profile] iam-thebadwolf.livejournal.com on December 27th, 2011 04:17 am (UTC)
Prefer that to happen after the party. I'll see what I can do, gettin' it cut up. You eat it raw, yeah?
[identity profile] azhdarchidae.livejournal.com on December 27th, 2011 04:26 am (UTC)
Aww. Don't worry about scaling or de-boning. I'm not sure I can eat the beak, but the rest is fine.

Usually I do. Well, no - I always do, I don't exactly have a fire handy. But hey, if you had a spare oven and a bunch of baking pans...
[identity profile] iam-thebadwolf.livejournal.com on December 28th, 2011 01:26 am (UTC)
I'll have to check on the ovens. Might see what we can do 'bout some of it anyhow.
[identity profile] azhdarchidae.livejournal.com on December 28th, 2011 01:32 am (UTC)
This is a bit much for one meal, even for me. I can carry off the leftovers if you don't want them.

[She lays the big fish out on the roof and pokes it with a big scaly hand.] Swordfish or marlins or whatever are edible to humans, right?

That simplifies the catering a bit.

[ The Doctor has come to admire Janine's bounty. ]
[identity profile] azhdarchidae.livejournal.com on December 26th, 2011 02:55 pm (UTC)
I expected it might. [Bright scales are rubbing off, mostly on her; she ignores that. They'll come off.] These things can leap! I think it's a marlin. [It's not a marlin.]
[personal profile] leathered on December 27th, 2011 04:06 am (UTC)
More of a [ fish name ], if I had to guess. [ He doesn't know either. ] Glad you could make it. No crashes this time, even/
[identity profile] azhdarchidae.livejournal.com on December 27th, 2011 04:17 am (UTC)
Marlin, swordfish... I don't know the difference. Big fish with big back fins and beaks, anyway.

[The movement of her eyeballs is somewhat restricted and she can't roll them properly, but she conveys the effect in part by moving her big head so her beak goes in a small circle.] Keep talking about that and I'll give you a kiss, a proper one this time. And have to explain to Rose why your face is bruised.
[personal profile] leathered on December 28th, 2011 08:34 pm (UTC)
[ He laughs, putting up his hands to say he's giving in. ] Just having a bit of fun. Glad you could make it.
[identity profile] azhdarchidae.livejournal.com on December 28th, 2011 08:57 pm (UTC)
[She swings her head in a feint, though not a terribly convincing one.]

Glad to get away from that ticking for a while. Just fair warning, it's getting dark and I'll probably end up falling asleep up here.
[personal profile] leathered on December 28th, 2011 09:12 pm (UTC)
You should find yourself a roommate that likes camping. [ It's a pretty safe assumption, he thinks, that she lives outdoors somewhere. After all, she can't even get into the apartments. ]

Sleep all you want. But if you snore we'll have to kick you out. [ He grins, teasing. ]

Hey.
[identity profile] azhdarchidae.livejournal.com on December 26th, 2011 10:51 pm (UTC)
It's the pretty barbel! Hey yourself.
[identity profile] waitedforyears.livejournal.com on December 28th, 2011 10:23 am (UTC)
Prettiest around here, for sure. [ Grinning. ] How's the neck?
[identity profile] azhdarchidae.livejournal.com on December 28th, 2011 08:59 pm (UTC)
[She coils it into a very tight S, heronlike.] It's been worse. I think I might want to find some other way to give people rides, though.
[identity profile] waitedforyears.livejournal.com on December 29th, 2011 10:25 am (UTC)
A saddle? [ She's kidding, she's kidding. Probably. ]
[identity profile] azhdarchidae.livejournal.com on December 29th, 2011 11:33 pm (UTC)
[Janine snorts. She's a big creature and there's a hollow space in that great beak, so it's loud.] A big laundry bag. [Probably she's kidding too.]
[identity profile] waitedforyears.livejournal.com on December 30th, 2011 08:26 am (UTC)

[ Donna has no qualms about clamping a hand over her nose and mouth and giving a holler of disgust. ]

Janine! That smells-- oh, that's awful! ...Is that what you're eating?
[identity profile] azhdarchidae.livejournal.com on December 27th, 2011 04:23 am (UTC)
Donna! Doesn't cold cut smell? I can't tell. [Virtually nonexistent sense of smell.]

Yeah, this is dinner. You expected birdseed?
