[He takes a couple of steps back when she starts rushing at him with that finger ready. He's obviously seen Rose angry, and even occasionally with him, but this is quite a new level.
He absolutely makes use of her needing a breath to try and defend himself. Which would be much easier if he could actually think of a rebuttal.]
