I'm not actually sure why three hundred and twelve. It just always comes to mind. One off in either direction and you get a happy prime, so it must be a good number anyhow, surrounded by such cheer and all.

[He glances at her.]

Forty-two? The answer to life, the universe, and everything? It's handy every now and then. Kind of remarkable how often it actually is an answer.

[She shakes her head.] Never heard that one before. Guess we ought to find a door with some of these numbers on it.

[She stops in front of one that ends in seven.]

Give it a look see? [And she tries the knob, a delighted smile on her face when she pushes it open.]

[Oh, he swoops in right when she opens the door, poking his head around corners with his hands in and then out and then back in his pockets.]

Doesn't look too bad. Good... height. Needs more stuff though.

[She pokes around in the rooms as well, opens closet, gives the bathroom a skeptical look and opens the curtains in the main room.]

View's nice. Figger we can get more stuff. Fill it up bit by bit, least as long as we're here.

[He nods, attempting to see things with stuff on them like... you do when you're looking at a flat. He can't help but keep comparing it to the TARDIS though.]

Quite square, but then most of your human things tend to be. What do you think?

[She compares it to the TARDIS too, just in a less expectant way. The TARDIS is the exception, not the rule for her. She shrugs and glances around a bit more.]

Squares are easy to make. [The words carry a hint of an apology. Rose Tyler, apologizing for the entire human race's taste in architecture.]

It'll do. We can look about for something more interesting and collect things in the meantime. S'temporary, remember?

[He looks at her and grins a bit in that 'Rose Tyler is the most special human being ever created' sort of way he likes to do.]

They are, yeah. Much easier than circles, though my particular preference is hexagons. Least you lot don't fancy star-shaped things - be a nightmare fitting things in all the corners.

[Ah, temporary, yes. He nods. Hard to remember all this sudden change, and he's not sure how it will right itself, but. Temporary.] Right, yeah.

[Oh she loves that smile. She bounces up on her toes and smiles back at him with that gleeful smile that somehow is only reserved for him.]

We'd have to have things special made for the corners.

[The look on his face and the tone of his voice makes her furrow her brow a bit. She takes a step toward him, her hand sliding into his.]

If we find some place more interesting, I'm coming too.

[The apartment might be temporary and their situation might be temporary but she's not. Sometimes she has to remind him of that.]

Really pointy chaise-lounges and teeny tiny tables, yeah? Maybe a hammock somewhere, for naps. Not that I ever nap.

[He looks down at their hands like he's probably going to keep doing for a while until he gets used to that happening again.]

You'd better. Be much less interesting otherwise.

Forever, yeah? [At least that's what she promised. The City has just given her another chance to keep it. He needn't worry about the staring at their hands thing because for a long while, every time she wakes up, she'll want to find him, to see him, to make sure that he's real and this hasn't been some vivid dream because she's had those dreams before.]

Bet we could string a hammock up right here, cross the windows. It'd be good for swingin' in while we watch the view.

[Clearly she is getting in this hammock with you, Doctor.]

Yeah. [Absolutely forever, barring all major cosmic hindrances and the fact that he can't really himself say it aloud. But yes with the forever.]

Have you ever slept in a hammock? They're actually really uncomfortable if you do it for more than a few hours. Something about how your body always feels like it's about to fall out and keeps you from moving. Sort of like general anaesthesia but to yourself and with no real purpose.

[The words are nice to hear, Doctor, especially when you're a human girl who wonders half the time why he ever took her hand and invited her into his amazing ship. However, she also speaks Doctor well enough to know that he saves all his words for the things that don't matter while remaining tight lipped on the things that do.]

Can't say I have. So we won't sleep in it. Just use it for short naps and observation. [Of the views, naturally.]

We'll get beds for the sleeping bits.

That sounds like a much better idea. Beds for the sleeping bits, so there's no sleeping in hammocks. Squashy, bouncy beds good for sleeping, and jumping on, which is the other important side of beds. [Yes, he is casually overlooking 'observation' and definitely sort of avoiding use of the word 'we'. But for now he glances around the room again.]

Not too bad then. I wonder who you chat with to rent it. Do you like it?

[The bouncing beds comment makes her laugh, one of those bubbling almost giggle laughs.] We could get one for bouncing and one a waterbed. Good for sloshing about on. [She doesn't really notice. He's not stopping her from the use of the word 'we' nor is he using the words 'I' and 'you'.]

Yeah, I do. Quite a bit actually. More once we have hammock and the squishy beds in it.

[She flips on her device and scrolls through it a bit.] Oh there's a real estate office. Maybe we give them a ring.

[...Ooooooooh. He pauses to think about that.] A waterbed. You know, I haven't had the chance to test one of those in ages. Sloshy. ['Sloshy' is fun to say. He might have to work it into conversation more often.]

Yes, those will definitely make it a bit better. Some things on the wall. Probably more on the floor...

Oh, brilliant! That makes sense, yes. [No Rose, he's not nearly entirely going to leave this up to you. Nope. Not at all.]

We ought to put a waterbed on our list then. A table or two and maybe some interesting paintings.

[It's alright, she'll have a chat with the Realtor while he pokes around a bit more and comes up with more ways to work sloshy into sentences.]

What sort of paintings, d'you reckon? All impressionisty or photo-realistic - which is lovely even if I don't quite see the reason behind it. Or maybe some of those ones with just the bright squares and then we can sort of paint on them a bit more and make them a bit more interesting and personalised. Like when you get a hat in a little shop and take it round the corner to have your name stitched on, only better than a hat or trying to fit your name on one. [He is both supremely excited and quite... well, 'anxious' seems too strong, but either way, both feelings are ramble-inducing. As I'm sure she can tell.]

Have you ever had a waterbed or do you just have more sloshy bed experience?

A bit of impressionist and a bit of us throwing paint about? We could make a day of it with hand prints and paint splotches and the like.

[She can tell and she's just going to let him ramble through the feelings. She's practically giddy at the whole arrangement and trying to suppress it so not to put more pressure on him.]

Had a mate in school that had a sloshy bed but I never slept over.

We could! That could be fun. Have to find another suit though - wouldn't do to get paint all over this one. And I would. Probably.

Did you? I mean, I've met people whose beds were literally made of water but not very many species tend to have waterbeds, for some reason. Maybe they don't appreciate the sloshiness. I don't see the problem with a sloshy bed. Gives you the chance to say sloshy.

We'll pick some old clothes up somewhere. [Somehow, she can see him being covered in paint.]

We'll get one squishy bed, one sloshy bed. We can rotate who sleeps in which.

[SOMEHOW I CAN TOO.] Good, good.

[His face is where to look this time to fully see how much approval he has of this plan. Much approval. It's like being given choices in a situation you don't have choices in.]

Brilliant! Capital idea, Rose Tyler! Squishy and sloshy. If we stack them at some point I think it'll make some new form of matter.

S'pose we could stack the squishy top the sloshy. Might be a bit unstable but we'll manage.

[Rose's device beeps a moment, drawing her attention with a text message from the Realtor.]

Flat's ours.

[And that deserves a hug.]

I've dealt with more unstable things than that. And not even in the name of science, there, so.

[He's still sort of considering things both squishy and sloshy and not when she gets the news and then suddenly hugging interrupts his train of thought.]

Oh! Brilliant! That fast? That seems... fast. But good!

[She makes it a fairly brief hug, at least for them.]

S'pose they deal with this sort of thing often? 'Least we'll have a place to stay even if it is on the floor.

Probably, yeah; people leave the City with a frequency that might be alarming if it didn't apparently mean going back... to wherever they'd come from.

[Now that the flat is theirs he has to look around it again with an entirely different perspective. Obviously.]

It is a very nice floor though. Clean and such. And did I mention the best bit? Ours. Excellent floor.
